A Haunted Stroll Down Michigan’s Most Frightening Block: The Legend of Tillson Street

Each October, the quaint village of Romeo, Michigan, becomes a beacon for Halloween enthusiasts, thanks to the renowned Terror on Tillson Street.

 

Spanning two and a half blocks, this annual spectacle draws visitors from across the state to witness a community's dedication to the spooky season.

 

From dusk until 11 p.m. on weekends throughout October, Tillson Street offers a free, family-friendly environment brimming with creativity and community spirit.

 

The Romeo Police Department ensures safety by closing the street to vehicular traffic during peak hours, allowing pedestrians to meander through the hauntingly decorated neighborhood.

 

Local vendors enhance the experience by serving warm cider, cocoa, and donuts, adding a cozy touch to the chilly autumn evenings.

 

Each residence along Tillson Street transforms into a unique masterpiece.

 

From eerie clown-themed displays to elegantly attired skeletons, the creativity knows no bounds.

 

Notably, the event serves a greater purpose: proceeds from merchandise sales support local students, veterans, and cancer research initiatives.

 

This year's commemorative T-shirt showcases original artwork by Victoria Lee, a longtime resident instrumental in shaping the street's Halloween legacy.

 

Reflecting on the tradition, Lee shared, "Many years ago, when I was small, my Mom used to decorate special for Halloween because it was my birthday... Years later, when my children were small, I started decorating special for them... I've been on Tillson Street for 35+ years."

 

The sense of family and community is palpable.

 

On October 31st, from 6 to 8 p.m., children flood the street for an unforgettable night of trick-or-treating.
