Community Steps Up: 120 Families Receive Complete Thanksgiving Dinners

Motions Community Support Expands Holiday Meal Program to Aid More Families in Need

Alana Weems, founder and CEO of Motions Community Support, has once again demonstrated her unwavering commitment to the Metro Detroit community this Thanksgiving.

Recognizing the financial strain the holidays can impose, Weems and her team have expanded their annual holiday meal project to provide full Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.

"We're just making sure that if there's a need, that we're able to help it," Weems stated.

Established seven years ago, Motions Community Support began by assisting two families during the holiday season.

This year, the organization has grown significantly, supporting 120 families with complete Thanksgiving meals.

Weems, daughter of former Detroit Lion Cyrill Weems, transformed her teenage dream into a reality by founding the organization.

"I wanted to service a need, and I fell in love with the work. I've always had a helping heart," she shared.

The initiative involves packing boxes full of groceries and delivering them to families, ensuring they can prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal without the financial burden.

On Thanksgiving Day, Weems and her team also prepare meals for those unable to cook for themselves.

Weems plans to continue this mission for as long as possible.

"If someone is needing of a resource or an opportunity or whatever that they need, that they're able to seek that out through Motions," she affirmed.

In addition to Motions Community Support's efforts, the Farmington Hills community has been actively involved in supporting those in need during the holiday season.

On November 22, 2025, the Farmington Family YMCA hosted the "Fresh Baskets" event, where volunteers assisted in loading baskets full of Thanksgiving essentials into vehicles, spreading holiday cheer to local families.

Furthermore, the Farmington Hills Nature Center organized a "Thanksgiving Hike & Seek" on November 28, 2025, offering families a guided hike to explore nature's treasures and create fall-themed crafts, fostering a sense of gratitude and community.

These collective efforts highlight the community's dedication to ensuring that every family can experience the joy and warmth of the Thanksgiving season.
